Accommodation

Accommodation is one of frequent question we get by the students and parents. There are many options for accommodation in the UK, consider according to your budget and personal preferences.

Types of Student Accommodation in the UK:

1. University Halls: On campus or nearby, managed by your university. They come in two flavors:

  • Catered Halls: Meals are dished up for you, ideal for convenience (but potentially pricier).
  • Self-Catered Halls: Whip up your culinary masterpieces in a shared or private kitchen.

Pros: Super close to campus, easy to meet fellow students, bills and internet often included.

Cons: Can be more expensive and less private compared to private options.

2. Private Halls: Run by private companies, these offer modern swag like gyms, social areas, and study rooms.

Pros: Think fancy facilities, good locations (often central), perfect for staying active and social.
Cons: Generally pricier, some amenities might have extra costs.

3. Homestay: Live with a local family for a truly immersive cultural experience. Meals and bills are often covered, but there’s a catch.

Pros: Cultural immersion, support from the host family, meals and utilities often included.

Cons: Less independence and privacy, potentially pricier for the level of service.

4. Private Rented Accommodation: Rent a house or flat directly from a landlord or agent (This will take time, you will need to come and do on your comfort time. You cannot do it from your country).  However you can rent a room and we can also help you find a room for you.

Your choices on private renting:

  • Studios/One-Bedroom Flats: Perfect for those who crave their own space or come with a partner.
  • Shared Houses: Split costs and the fun of living with other students by renting a room in a house.
  • Shared Room: Rent a room from other people who have secured house in their name. Many student from Nepal, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh prefer to rent a room because it’s cheap and most easy way to get an accommodation.

Pros: More independence and privacy, potentially cheaper (especially shared).

Cons: Utilities might be extra, and managing bills and maintenance is on you. While some landlords may offer rent inclusive of bills, especially when renting a room, this isn’t always the case. It’s essential to clarify what the rent covers before agreeing to a tenancy. Ask detailed questions about included utilities, internet, and any potential additional charges.

Only renting a room is easy: Use your network (friends who are already in the UK and friends in University) alternatively use Gumtree or Facebook Page.

Finding Your Perfect Match:

  • Budget: Consider rent, utilities, internet, and other living expenses. Don’t forget about deposits and any extra fees. In the UK normally you will have to pay one month rent and one month deposit when you are renting a room/flat/house from private landlord.
  • Location, Location, Location: How close is it to campus? Are there good transport links? Think about essential amenities like laundry facilities and internet. Security is important too!
  • Contract Clarity: Understand the lease length, any conditions for leaving early, and house rules (know the house rules before renting and follow it properly so that you won’t have any issue later).

Top Tips for Your Search:

  • Be an Early Bird: The best options get snatched up fast, so get proactive!
  • See It Yourself: If possible, check out the accommodation before committing.
  • Read Reviews: Get the inside scoop from past residents.
  • Seek Help: University housing services and student unions are there to guide you.

Finding the right accommodation sets the foundation for your UK student experience. By considering your needs and priorities, you can find a place that feels like home, fuels your studies and lets you enjoy all the social aspects of student life.  We are happy to help you to find an accommodation please speak with us in advance.
